How to setup Free Google SMTP

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a communication protocol for email transmission. There are many SMTP providers but we are discussing about free and reliable Google SMTP server. In this article, we will show you how to setup free Google SMTP. so, that you can send emails using your Gmail.

This will not only useful to send emails from your website but also if you want to use email client like Thunderbird or Outlook for your Gmail account.

Gmail SMTP setup credentials:

  • Server address: smtp.gmail.com
  • Username: Your Gmail address
  • Password: Your Gmail password/ Gmail App Password
  • Gmail SMTP port (TLS/SSL): 587/465

Kindly note that you can use Gmail username and Gmail password if your are using SMTP for email client but if you are setting up SMTP server to send email from your website or from an application you need to create an app password. We will describe this in details below.

How to Use Google SMTP Server?

In this section, we will show you how to send emails using Google’s SMTP server you can use send email from custom domain too using this tutorial. The SMTP credentials will be same as above but keep in mind that we need to use app password in password field and 2SV must be enabled in your Google account.

If you are using custom domain than you can only send emails if you are using app password, app password will provide permission to your custom domain to access your Google account.

  • Enable 2sv in your Google account
  • Generate App Password
  • Use above SMTP Credentials and use App Password in password field.

How to generate App Password in Google Account?

  • Go to Security and click on 2-step verification.

  • Once done you will get app password

That’s all your Gmail SMTP is ready you can use it wherever required, either in email client your in your website SMTP configuration.
